5 Stars Confusing at first but then really fun
At first this game is very confusing and the instructions seem hard to follow, but once you have played it a few times it all starts to make sense. Now that we know what we are doing all of our friends love to come over and play this game.
5 Stars Great Fun!
This is one of those games you either love or hate. It reminds me of a toned down Pit game (not quite as much yelling), because there are times when the bidding gets intense. Yep, there is bidding in this game. Part of being a “munchkin” is doing your neighbor dirty, then offering to help out — for a fee. In fact, the high art of munchkinliness is setting up the scenario so you can do just that, create havoc, make people spend their cards, and gain a level in the process.
The basics of the game are pretty simple: There is a turn order, an order of operations for each player during the turn, and then trying to find ways to win or be munchkinly. The turn order is 1) Kick in a door 2) depending on what’s behind the door, fight a monster (or run away) or bag the card, 3) see if any other player is going to do anything to you (be munchkinly), 4) go looking for trouble (play a monster in your hand), 5) pick up any treasures and levels (from fighting monsters), 6) discard if necessary.
This game gets better with more players. We play it here at the house with three. Two is not enough. I think four would be better (cue Monty Python Holy Hand Grenade skit here) but more than six would probably be too chaotic (and require more cards).
I like a lot of Steve Jackson’s games. This one is another keeper.
5 Stars Great fun
Great fun. Laugh out loud funny at times. My 7 year old loves it, as do my 9 year old, my 13 year old nephew, and my wife as well.
5 Stars I LOVE THIS GAME
I initially played this game at a friend’s party. I absolutely loved it! It’s a little confusing to get a handle on when you’re learning, but they had printed out a flow-chart from the Munchkin website that made it extremely easy to pick up on after playing a few rounds. (Having now taught this game to quite a few people, I HIGHLY recommend finding said flow-chart to make it easier on the newbies.) The game gets pretty random and crazy, but it’s extremely fun and sure to get everyone laughing. Haven’t bought any of the expansions, but I sure plan to!
5 Stars Fun for all (12+?) ages
The maker says it “captures the essence of the dungeon experience…with none of that stupid roleplaying stuff.”
If you have friends that like RPG, i imagine they’ll give this a try and love it.
If you have friends that just like playing cards, they may take a little sweet-talking to try it, then I’d bet they’ll love it.
If you don’t have any friends, I wouldn’t buy this. It is not a good substitute for Solitaire
Simple, fun, social.
