5 Stars simple to learn but a challange to master
Pente is agame one can learn in a few minutes, however strategy can make this challanging for adults
5 Stars Near-perfect remake of a classic
I used to play this with my family quite a bit, and now that I’m getting out on my own, I thought I should get my own board. Overall, I’m happy with this version. It’s easy to tell which pieces are what color, and the board is fairly sturdy for a roll-up. The only two problems I have with the presentation is that the bags for the blue and black pieces are almost the same color, and that the tube is just barely big enough to fit everything. A little extra space, while not strictly necessary, would make packing it more convenient.
As to the game itself, if you’ve never played it, then you should. It’s the quintessential easy-to-learn-yet-difficult-to-master game. Even a young child can play it, but even the most experienced players can keep learning new strategies. The basic idea is to get five stones in a row or capture ten of your opponent’s stones. It really gets interesting with team play, since there are limitations to how you can accomplish your goals. No matter how you play, though, you have to use and develop your forward thinking skills to outmatch your opponent. In that way it’s like chess–it’s all about thinking farther ahead than the other guy.
So if you’ve never played, or if you’ve played and need a new board, I definitely recommend this version. You should get hours of fun out of it.
5 Stars happy with my new Pente game!
Very happy with this product, heard about this game from a friend and only available on-line…you made it easy to find Amazon.com and the shipping was great from the vendor. All is good, thanks.
4 Stars Observation on Pente game for 4 people
We think this game is very nice. The only drawback is that the pieces that come with the game are too similar in color and therefore hard to distinguish on the board. We also have a Pente game for two people that have dark red pieces and clear pieces. This is much more fun to play with as you can easily distinguish them on the board.
5 Stars Deep Strategy Game Accessible To Even Young Kids
Pente is a very deep strategy games. There are online sites with thousands of competitive players that compete with rating and rankings. At the same time, however, the basic concept — get 5 stones in a row — is so simple that its easy for even very young kids to play. For example, its definitely easier for kids to grasp then checkers. Its also quick to play — I can play one kid and then the other without them losing patience.
My four year old loves it; my seven year old loves it. My wife, who does not like strategy games much, likes it.
There are a lot of small stones, so certainly its not for kids so young that they are going to throw/dump/eat them.
While Connect 4 is probably the best starter strategy game, Pente does not need to be far behind.
As for the board and the tube, agree with its defenders. Any parent knows that game boards and boxes dont last long with heavy use, and I fully expect this board and tube to last longer than the norm. The tube is also be convenient for travel although that is not a big issue for me, since you will not travel with Pente that often. You wouldnt take pente to the beach, for example, because of the small stones. As has been previously noted, the stones fit in the tube just fine if you roll the board around them.
